Pressing Ahead
With the end of Daylight Savings Time, SpaceShare is burrowing into a winter hibernation mode, or maybe we should call it a cocoon: less festivals and public work but more long-range development behind the scenes: redeveloping the homepage (please help proof!) and rebuilding all our tools plus new ones with more modern web technologies (mostly Drupal).
What we'd like from our members: proof a piece of the draft SpaceShare site. And one serious volunteer: we're looking for a social media intern!

"Direct mail is not trees,
it is printed communication."

This self-rebutting quote is from Mail Moves America promoting junk mail.

Mail Moves America particularly caught our attention for a bit of carpool greenwashing:
they claim that junk mail is part of the "Largest Carpool on Earth" (quoted on MMA site with reference to MediaMark, 2006). You knew you would have driven solo to Capital One's offices if they hadn't sent you that unsolicited credit card application, right?

In response, we're excited to promote the Return to Offender action from Forest Ethics. Return your junk mail to the worst offenders!

Online & Creative Volunteers:

  • Help redesign the SpaceShare homepage: work in progress here.
  • Looking for an internship? We are seeking a social media coordinator. Help coordinate a rapidly growing twitter & facebook effort, learn skills that are in demand.

SpaceShare 2.0  This month we'll begin developing new green+social networking tools for the Sustainable Meetings Conference and a carpool module written in Drupal for the Drupal Conference in San Francisco next spring. SpaceShare was the cutting-edge in 2003, but as a low-budget project with a full plate of existing (low-budget) clients, it's hard to keep up.

Feedback From Recent Festivals...

SpaceShare's worked very well for me. I managed to find a great gal for a roommate. It was an easy process, saved me money and we enjoyed attending the conference and sharing evenings together.

We're going to jump a few code development generations this winter. If you are a Drupal developer who'd like to volunteer in developing open-source carpool tools, or a budding entreprenuer who'd like to join a newly forming team (bus dev and design skills especially needed), please contact Stephen.

Look for new tools in the coming newsletters, or get involved now:
